A good opportunity to fill the vitamin D stores, to swim a round in the lake and to nibble lots of cooling ice cream - together with your favorite four-legged friend of course. Especially now any cooling off comes in handy, because summer days can get oppressive and muggy. Especially if the dress code permanently says fur. With our step-by-step instructions you can make delicious dog ice cream yourself. So you support and spoil your favorite dog in these temperatures - and easily without any effort from home.

Dog ice cream in different forms

Sticks made of wood or similar are of course out of the question for dogs. They could splinter way too easily, be swallowed and besides, master or mistress would have to hold the ice cream on the handle all the time. Small bowls are best suited to prepare the ice cream in. So the dog can lick it all by himself and does not have to be supervised non-stop. Super useful are also kongs, which are hollow inside and can be filled with the ice cream recipe and then frozen. For small dogs it is also a good idea to use the ice cube mold to measure out and freeze the tasty dog ice cream well. Generally speaking, less is more - too much cold ice will quickly give your dog a tummy ache, too. Small forms are therefore ideal.

Instructions for William Walker's DIY dog ice cream

Step 1 - The Base

Classic ice cream is actually a dairy product. Many dogs tolerate cow's milk, sheep's milk or goat's milk wonderfully. Suitable as a basic ingredient are, for example, goat yogurt, cottage cheese and much more. If you would rather create a fruity dog ice cream, it is best to use quark or lactose-free natural yogurt as a base. For a heartier menu, it is preferable to choose cream cheese or yogurt from sheep or goat. For dogs who have never come into contact with dairy products, you can alternatively boil vegetables and meat in water and use the nutritious broth as an ice cream base or even ready-made ice cream. For further processing, you just put your chosen base ingredient in a bowl.

Step 2 - Favorite ingredients

Fruits, vegetables, fish - this step provides space for the large field of delicacies and preferences. For fruit lovers banana, apple, mango and melon are suitable. However, many dogs are particularly happy about meat and fish in their dog ice cream - even if fish ice cream is not necessarily on the menu for us humans. Simply chop or puree your gourmet snout's favorite ingredients and then add them to the bowl with your base ingredient. Depending on the size of the pieces you can choose up to 5 ingredients.

Step 3 - Refine

Finally, depending on the fruity or hearty option, you can add a shot of William Walker's Salmon Oil or Linseed Oil. This will help your dog with digestion. A little honey is also not only healthy, but a delicious topping, especially for those with a little sweet tooth. Herbs, such as rosemary, basil or dried nettles and chamomile not only work from the inside, but can also taste really good. Here you should fall back on herbs that the dog already knows and likes, so that the ice cream is not spurned. Simply add the selected toppings to the bowl, mix everything well and pour into the mold. A few hours in the freezer - and ready is the customized, self-made dog ice cream.

Be sure to note: Do not get too creative, because not everything that humans can eat is also tolerated by dogs. Look definitely before on the Internet, whether also all foods that you have selected for your ice cream are suitable for dogs. Be especially careful with nuts, berries or spices. Seeds often contain hydrocyanic acid, so make sure they don't get into your ice cream. Chocolate, grapes and raisins or some nightshade plants such as peppers are taboo for four-legged friends.
